DiamondMaster

Know your app. Understand your values.

Help with mined-natural and grown-created diamond reference values, BrightList subscription access, and the tools behind your comparisons.

The story behind the numbers

Same diamond. Different measuring stick.

What changes when you value a diamond in gold instead of dollars? Explore mined-natural and grown-created origins, Wayne’s early HPHT story, and the subscriber app’s 27 Cost units in our DiamondMaster FAQ: Diamonds, Value & Exchange.

Getting started

From a diamond to a reference value

Explore ten shapes: Round, Pear, Marquise, Emerald, Oval, Princess, Radiant, Heart, Trilliant, and Cushion. Natural and lab-grown diamonds have separate reference datasets.

  1. Choose the shape and diamond type. Open a shape screen for a natural diamond, or use its “GROWN” $ button to open the lab-grown calculator. On iPhone, look under More for tabs that are not visible.
  2. Set the diamond characteristics. Select the carat size or range, color, clarity, and cut grade. Available size selections depend on the shape.
  3. Choose the Cost unit. Read the per-carat and total reference values in your selected currency or exchange unit. The screen also shows reference dimensions and color and clarity descriptions.
  4. Check your adjustment. The Reset Global Multiplier tool applies a discount or premium across the diamond calculations. Use RESET TO “LIST” to return the multiplier to 1.00.

BrightList access

Subscribed vs. unsubscribed

The calculators remain usable without an active subscription. The key difference is the reference data and exchange-unit choices used in their results.

Subscription help

Already subscribed? Restore your access.

If you have changed devices, updated the app, or see NOT SUBSCRIBED! despite an active subscription, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the internet and confirm that the App Store is signed in to the same Apple Account used for the purchase.
  2. Open DiamondMaster and go to Subscription Options (under More on iPhone if needed).
  3. Tap RESTORE SUBSCRIPTION (New Device) and allow the App Store connection to complete.
  4. Check the subscription status at the top of the screen, then reopen a diamond calculator. If access still does not appear, restart the app and check the subscription in your device’s Settings > your name > Subscriptions.

Restoring checks an existing purchase; it does not extend an expired subscription. If Apple shows an active subscription but DiamondMaster still shows demo access, contact app support.

Common questions

Using DiamondMaster

Why does the app say the data is out of date?

Without a verified active subscription, the calculators use older demonstration datasets. Select Use Demo to continue exploring, or View Options to see subscription choices. If you have already subscribed, follow the restore steps.

Why are values different after an update or subscription change?

Demo and subscriber access use different datasets and Cost-unit lists. Check the diamond type, shape, carat selection, color, clarity, cut, Cost unit, and global multiplier before comparing results. Exchange-rate updates can also change a value expressed in your selected unit.

What do the 1-year and 5-year percentages mean?

On natural-diamond screens, these show the percentage change between the selected current reference value and its corresponding historical reference values, expressed in the chosen Cost unit. Both diamond reference values and exchange rates affect the result. The 5-year figure is the total change over that period, not an annualized return.

Grown screens show per-carat and total reference values; they do not display these historical percentages. Demo-mode percentages use older demonstration data.

How do I remove a discount or premium?

Open Reset Global Multiplier, then tap RESET TO “LIST”. This returns the multiplier to 1.00. To apply a new adjustment, move the slider and tap RESET TO NEW, then return to the calculator.

The tool shows both a cost-based markup (labeled Net) and a sales-based margin (labeled Gross). For example, a 25% markup on a cost of 100 gives 125, which is a 20% gross margin. Changing this setting adjusts calculations; it does not refresh market data.

Does DiamondMaster work offline?

The app has locally supplied reference data and can retain previously refreshed exchange data. Calculators can use available local data, but fresh exchange information, purchases, and restoring subscription access require a connection. Reconnect and reopen the app if updates are unavailable; do not assume an offline value is current.

Subscription options are blank or a purchase fails. What should I do?

Check your connection and App Store sign-in, confirm that in-app purchases are allowed on your device, then close and reopen DiamondMaster. If the problem continues, restart the device. Save the exact error message and include it when you contact support.

The app closes unexpectedly or a screen does not respond. What helps?

Close and reopen DiamondMaster, restart your device, and check the App Store for an available update. If it happens again, send the screen name, selections, and steps that reproduce the issue using the support form below.

Is a displayed value an appraisal or an offer to buy?

DiamondMaster provides reference calculations. A displayed value is not an individual appraisal, grading report, or binding offer. A particular diamond’s condition, grading, treatment, and marketability can affect its actual price. See the market-information disclosures in our Terms of Use.
